Mission: Whoppers and Lotion
Today’s mission post is courtesy of Affiliated Agent D in Oregon.
Location: Corvallis, Oregon. Burger King. Women’s restroom.
Date: Wednesday, 12 August 2009
Time: 2:00 p.m.
Affiliated Agent D states: “This is my first mission, so I tried to keep it simple. I left a small bottle of peach scented hand lotion in the women’s restroom of a Burger King in Corvallis, Oregon at 2pm on August 12. I had to hurry with the photo so as not to be caught.”
Secret Agent L especially likes the hole-punched hearts on the business card. What a sweet addition to an already lovely gesture of kindness. Well done, Affiliated Agent D. And thank you for your kindness.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s mission posts: 1) a kind gesture in Kansas to make a mother smile, and 2) Music Monday!
(Secret Agent L continues to try to heal and thanks you all for your emails, thoughts, and prayers.)

Mission: California Gift Card-in’
To continue with my healing, I will be posting the lovely missions that my outstanding Affiliated Agents have been completing all over the country. Today’s posting is courtesy of Affiliated Agent M (and her two darling girls) in California.
Affiliated Agent M reports: “We sat down at the first bench and pretended to be non-chalant (something very hard for two little girls). We then decided at once to get up and begin walking. Not looking back, as it would completely foil the ruse. (Again, not easy for two little girls.) Once we got to the end of the pier we were able to look back and see that two women had sat down, one on crutches with a cast ( I know, we couldn’t have written this better). They found the envelope with the gift card and note enclosed. Hooray! Mission Accomplished. We ran into the aquarium to check out the fish.”

To Help Heal
I was thinking that maybe posting something would help me feel a little bit of peace and healing during this difficult time, but I didn’t feel up to doing a mission on my own yet. Luckily, an Affiliated Agent in NYC (Agent A) went out this past weekend and completed a Quadruple Mission (!) and sent me the specifics this afternoon. Thus, I present to you the mission of Affiliated Agent A in NYC:
Main Location: Brooklyn, NY (Brooklyn Heights)
Date: Sunday, 9 August 2009
Mission #1: Notecards
Location: Key Food on the corner of Court and Atlantic
Time: 6:22 p.m.
Affiliated Agent A states: “After I dropped this off I noticed there was a huge movie trailer parked right where we were- they were filming Eat, Pray, Love and someone told me Julia Roberts was right around the corner.”
Mission #2: Funny Party Mustache
Location: Village Voice newspaper holder on the corner of (approx.) Court and Clinton
Time: 6:31 p.m.
Affiliated Agent A states: “Left a Business/ Pleasure pad with a note saying ‘hope your life is filled with more pleasure than business.’ My building is HUGE (27 floors) and lots of great staff and residents go in and out there all day/night.”
Secret Agent L thanks Affiliated Agent A for her acts of kindness and for helping to bring some joy during this incredibly difficult time.

Some sad news
Hello, all-
I apologize for not posting for a few days. On Monday night I suffered a significant and sudden loss in my life and have been grieving since that time. It is my hope to be back doing missions in the near future, but will most likely need this week to grieve and take care of myself.
I have received many emails from all of you expressing your interest in becoming Affiliated Agents, and I thank you. I will just need some time to answer them beginning this weekend or next week. I very much apprecite your interest in the Secret Agent L project and look forward to being able to return to work soon.
Thank you,
Secret Agent L

Mission: Perfect Day
Secret Agent L loves Sundays. It’s like the perfect day. What a great day to go to church, rest, enjoy the sun, read a good book, spend time just “being” in the world and enjoying it—no errands, no tasks, no work. Today she decided to do all of those things AND include a mission. What fun!
One of her favorite places in Pittsburgh is the Omni William Penn Hotel. It’s Pittsburgh’s oldest and (in her opinion) fanciest hotel. The lobby alone is enough to take anyone’s breath away. Lots of people are in town this weekend. So, Secret Agent L thought the hotel would be a perfect place to leave a little gesture of day-brightening…to let visitors know that we’re good people here in the Steel City and that we’re glad they decided to come and spend some time with us.
Location: Downtown Pittsburgh. Omni William Penn Hotel. Grant Street lobby entrance.
Date: Sunday, 9 August 2009
Time: 12:23 p.m.
Secret Agent L would also like to give a shout-out to one of her Affiliated Agents who’s working in the field today. This Affiliated Agent doesn’t have access to a camera presently, but has text messaged her mission stats promptly. Secret Agent L would like to share those stats here:

Mission: Power of Love
Secret Agent L participated in her first Night Mission. It was very exciting and, to top it off, easier than her Day Missions (which probably isn’t a surprise). She was quite busy doing other things earlier in the day, so she extends her apologies for making you wait so long for the day’s mission.
Secret Agent L knows the power of love, and she wanted to share an important message about it with you all today. Also, she’s on a bit of a tight budget now, so her random acts of kindness will be taking the form of “inexpensive” and “homemade” for the next week or so. Nonetheless, they still come from the heart.
Location: Oakland. Corner of Bellefield and Fifth Avenues. Bus stop bench.
Date: Saturday, 8 August 2009
Time: 9:43 p.m.

Secret Agent L Takes the Day Off
Secret Agent L has had a heck of a week, so she’s giving herself the day off today. She’s put out a call to her Affiliated Agents to engage in missions of kindness this weekend, and she’s ready for a mission for tomorrow, so check back then to see more Niceness in the World!
Have a great weekend! See you back here tomorrow!

Mission: Write Away
Secret Agent L loves to write (as is evidence by this here blog). And she thinks it’s important that you always carries a little notebook around in the event that Great Ideas strike, or you hit a red light and can quickly jot down some items on your ever-growing shopping list, or you find yourself feeling overwhelmed and need to just get all that stuff in your head that’s stressing you out, well, out. Little notebooks are great.
Secret Agent L hopes that the woman who finds today’s gesture of kindness will put such notebooks to good use. Perhaps one will be used as an ever-growing list of all of the things she’s thankful for. Maybe the second will be for items she needs to buy at the store. And maybe the third will be the place where she writes down all of the kind and good things that happened to her each day. Whatever the woman chooses to use them for, Secret Agent L hopes that they will be used only for All Things Good.
By the way, Secret Agent L left tonight’s gesture in a very Woman Oriented Place. So, gentlemen, don’t be alarmed. Sometimes we gals need a little pick-me-up during certain times of the month.
(Mission-related note: Secret Agent L was almost caught during tonight’s mission. She double-checked that nobody was around when she pulled out her camera, but just as she snapped her photo, a woman turned the corner and saw what she was doing. Secret Agent L could only imagine the thoughts going through the person’s mind: Why on earth is that girl taking pictures of a tampon box???)
Location: Shadyside/East Liberty Walgreens. Feminine Hygiene aisle.
Date: Thursday, 6 August 2009
Time: 8:33 p.m.

Mission: Purpose
Secret Agent L loves to shop for clothes. This is no secret. Even secret agents like to look nice. And Secret Agent L is pretty sure that other people like to shop for clothes, too. And she’s also pretty sure that sometimes they need a little encouragement–a little positive thought to turn their day around.
With the events of yesterday’s shootings, it’s even more important to realize the preciousness of life. And it’s important to know that every person’s life has a purpose. Sometimes people need to be reminded of that. Thus, Secret Agent L’s kind gesture (and mission) for today.
Location: South Side Works. H & M. Second-floor fitting rooms.
Date: Wednesday, 5 August 2009
Time: 6:36 p.m.

Prayers Needed, Please
It is not Secret Agent L’s plan to ever use this site as anything but a forum for kindness. She had hoped that she’d only ever post her missions here, but tonight, things have changed.
Pittsburgh is a very tight-knit city. We care about each other, we look out for one another, and we defend each other. But something went wrong tonight.
We’ve now made headlines on CNN. Secret Agent L asks that you please pray for our community, for those who lost their lives, and for those left behind. And she asks that you please look into your hearts and promise to only let love, kindness, tolerance, and *especially* non-violence reside there.
Secret Agent L is a real woman, with real feelings and real tears, which fall from her eyes as she writes this. She cries for her city.
Please pray for peace.
Please pray for peace.
