MISSION: Who Doesn’t Like Kinder Bueno?
You guys.
I’ve got two new international Affiliated Agents.
From Copenhagen, Denmark.
And they’re only 14 years old.
We can learn so much from children. And what wonderful role models they are for their community!

I have just been on my first mission with my friend and partner-in-good, E. We originally planned on giving my local school library something, but we found this chokolade in a store, and it was on sale. So we could not resist it. Anyways, it is now on a bench near the local shopping center, where we hope it will give someone a moment of joy.
We started by finding a 2-pack kinder bueno on sale in our local shop. Of course we bought it…
We then decided to make it a gift. We taped a SAL buisiness card onto it, and wrote a letter to follow it, the letter said:
“To the one that finds this, share it with your best friend, and tell he/she how much you care for her/him. Signed E and C.D”
And with a SAL business card.

MISSION: Home Depot Happiness
My dad calls me Bob Villa-ette. I love to do home improvement stuff. I’m not awesome at it, but I like it. When I was younger and lived at home, I used to help my dad around the house all the time. I grew fond of being called Bob Villa-ette. So a home improvement store is like a wonderland of pure joy for me. I love that Affiliated Agent P decided to do a mission there. How fun!

Just last night I performed a mission of kindness at the local Home Depot. I had purchsed some very lovely smelling shea butter soap at the florist earlier in the day. The box said “Be Happy” and I thought, “How fitting?!”
While we were at the Home Depot store I decided to leave this gift in the ladies’ room with a note attached. The front said:
This is for You! Yes, you!
Inside it said:
Sometimes life gets to be too hectic and we feel unappreciated. This is for you just because. Enjoy!

I also wrote Be Kind, No Exceptions on the top flap.
This seems to be the time of year when everyone is a little more rushed, and a little less kind, so I thought an act of kindness would be a great thing to do. I really hope that someone found this and it made them smile just a little wider that day.

Always Thankful. Always.
I just want to take a moment to tell you all how thankful I am for you.
Each.
One.
Of.
You.
You have brought so much into my life, in ways I will never be able to repay. Thank you.
Thank you for following the SAL Project.
Thank you for sharing your lives with me in this way.
Thank you for inspiring me.
Thank you for opening up to me in such candid and personal ways.
Thank you for choosing peace, for choosing love, and for choosing to give of yourself, even when it’s hard.
Thank you for your comments on my posts.
Thank you for your Facebook love.
Thank you for teaching me.
Thank you for rooting for me while I battle depression.
Thank you–oh, thank you!–for being kind.
Happy Thanksgiving, my dear friends. I love each and every one of you.
{Now, tell me. What are YOU thankful for?}

MISSION: Right On, Rookie!
You know what’s awesome?
Men who are kind.
I love when I get missions from the dudes out there. And this one? Well, let’s just say that I am one lucky gal to have Affiliated Agent M from Rolling Meadows, Illinois, in my ranks. This guy’s awesome. And he’s funny, too!

I’ve read several of the missions online, and they are part of the inspiration for doing these things for other people. I notice that many of the missions are women, and they bring a lot of thought and feeling to the missions that they do. But being a guy, and even though I have my thoughts and feelings about doing this rookie mission, I found myself sneaking into church where I planned to drop off this gift, singing to myself the song from the old TV show Secret Agent Man. Maybe just a guy thing, but do the women agents have this song in mind too?
Mission De-briefing:
The staff at the church that I go to is fairly big, and they work really hard each week. I picked one of the staff rooms used by people who lead the high school groups, since they deal with so much with all that high schoolers go through these days. I picked up one of those small gift books that you can find at lots of stores, this one by Max Lucado, one of my favorite authors. It has some inspirational stories and topics in it. I stopped off at church late one evening when there are only a few classes or small group meetings going on, and all of the staff have gone home. Being a volunteer with master keys to most places inside the building, I was able to let myself into the high school staff room, which is normally locked at the end of the day like most of these sections of the building. (Do Affiliated Agents get training on how to open locked doors for missions like this?) I dropped off the book on top of one of the copy machines in their room, which should get noticed by whoever is first to use the machine in the morning. Like you say, this will hopefully brighten someone’s morning, and some people may share books like this with others when they are finished reading them.
Ma’am, Affiliated Agent M reporting in, first rookie mission complete. I learned that I may need a better camera than the one that comes with my cell phone. It takes decent pictures in some lighting, but some indoor pictures aren’t as clear as with a regular camera. Noted for the next mission.
As one of our neighbors usually says, “Have a fabulous day!”

MISSION: Cancer Caring
I will forever be in awe of people living with and managing cancer. I have no words.
I’m so thankful for people like Affiliated Agent D of Buffalo, New York. After being busy doing FAKs (Friends & Family Acts of Kindness, she calls them), she continued to extend her heart to strangers who face cancer each day. Affiliated Agent D clearly has a huge heart!

I finally performed my 2nd “official” RAK. I haven’t totally been slacking off. I’ve been busy doing FAKs (Friends & Family Acts of Kindness) sometimes our friends & family need acts of kindness too…
- a treat for friend who’s stressed mother of the bride (scented candle, bottle of bubbles, favorite teabag & chocolate biscotti)
- migraine care package for daughter (reusable cold pack, chocolate, one time cold packs, cocoa)
- RAK flower printed off internet w/ lollipops distributed @ work to co-workers putting together difficult bid
- wedding “survival” bag for niece in several weddings (sewing kit, clear nailpolish, shout wipes, 1st aid kit, aspirin, antacid, bobby pins, double sided tape, myraid of other items)
- treats for the nurses at nursing home where my mom is (she has dementia & recently had stroke)
Anyway, I’m sending you photos of my 2nd mission.
I went to Roswell Cancer Institute – one of the nation’s premier cancer treatment institutes. I figured anyone going there for treatment could use a pick me up or if they worked there – they deserved a treat too.
My yellow bag had:
- jelly beans (who doesn’t like jelly beans?)
- bubbles (everyone is happier blowing bubbles)
- hand sanitizer
- lemon tea bag
- crackers & cheese
I had to try several times to find cars without getting caught to leave the bags. I finally left the bags. Will do another one soon; it won’t be so long until my next one. Thank you for letting me be part of this wonderful experience.

MISSION: RAK at the Nursery
We’re starting to get the yucky late-fall weather here in Pittsburgh: rainy days, grey skies, chilly temperatures. But Affiliated Agent A’s mission from sunny California definitely helps to brighten up our corner of the world! I love this mission! (See also: I WANT TO GO TO THERE.)

I love my hometown and the people in it. So it is always wonderful to do a SAL mission here! My mission was at our local nursery. This place is like a slice of heaven in my own backyard. It’s like going to private park. They even let you bring your dog here!
I purchased a wind chime about a year ago and decided today would be a nice day to do a mission. What better place to leave it than at a garden nursery. I love to do missions that might inspire people. The wind chime has the word “believe” cut out into the middle of a butterfly. What better way to inspire someone than with the promise of hope.
The nursery encourages people to come in and take pictures. So it was not a problem to bring my camera. There were not many people at the nursery in the afternoon so it was actually pretty easy to make the drop. I decided to leave it on a bench that was close the exit. I hope that whoever found it will be inspired to “believe” because if you do, anything could happen!

MISSION: Winter is Coming!
If I didn’t love Pittsburgh and its people so much, I’d totally move to a warmer climate. I do not–at all–do well in cold weather. In fact, if it’s not at least 70 degrees out, I’m all, “Where’s my parka?!” I know, I know. I’m an odd duck.
Luckily, Affiliated Agent B’s getting ready for the cold weather by spreading her kindness kits, complete with things to warm us up inside and out! What a creative and thoughtful idea!

As you know I am always doing the “multiple” missions where I make more than one and set out to distribute accordingly.
I found these coordinating bags and lotions at Target and selected 2 of each of two color schemes and then picked up two pairs of convertible mittens and two pairs of fingerless gloves. To add a little something for “inner warmth” I added to each gift a package of Starbuck’s Hot Cocoa with salted caramel.

I placed the first one on the shopping cart rack at the local grocery store; the second one I placed at a bus stop next to my office; the third I placed inside the lobby of my parents’ retirement apartment (where my dad found it an hour later and brought it up to my mother — while I was there!). The final one I placed on an outdoor cart of cyclamen at the local nursery (one of my favorite drop spots).
I love making and having these in my car to drop off whenever the notion hits — hoping that it might make just that much difference for someone having a hard day — or spur someone else on to take up the baton and become a secret agent too!!
Affiliated Agent B, I LOVE that your dad found one of your missions! Did you confess to your parents that you were behind it? Or did you “play dumb” and just enjoy it? I absolutely love this mission, your creativity, and, ultimately, the extreme kindness that you continue to show on a regular basis. You rock!

MISSION: Crafty Kindness
I have a confession: if I could just make crafty things, like, all day long, I would be one. happy. girl.
I’m definitely crafty and creative, but it’s a time thing with me. My life is full of so many things, and I just don’t seem to be able to make time to “get my craftin’ on.” Luckily, I can live vicariously through my Affiliated Agents, like Affiliated Agent 256. This girl’s GOOD. (AND kind!!)
Oh, and by the way: she actually included a step-by-step How-To guide so that you can re-create this same mission of crafty kindness! Thanks, Affiliated Agent 256!

The Mission
I was inspired by a particularly shiny penny that I received earlier this week, as it seemed like the perfect good luck charm. My grandpa was a big fan of lucky symbols (four-leaf clovers, in particular), and so I thought I would bring a little bit of luck to a handful of my neighbors.
I put together eight little envelopes, each with a quote about luck, a shiny penny, and a note indicating the luck imbued within the penny. In addition to pennies, I tucked five encouraging little notes into the two pockets of my sign. I know this equals 13 pieces, but pieces of good luck, not bad.
I stationed the sign in the entryway of my apartment building, right next to the key fob reader. I’ll check on it tomorrow and report back.
How-To Instructions for Making Your Own Penny Envelopes:
I’ve had this lovely patterned paper for ages but didn’t know what to do with it–I’m convinced this is exactly the project it’s been waiting for! The little envelopes and the yellow flags look so cheerful! I also used embroidery floss, a handful of blue beads, and my big bag of colored Sharpies.
1. Fold a 4×6 piece of paper in half. Cut or tear down the line.
2. Take one half of the paper and fold the long way it into thirds, creasing the folds with your finger. Unfold.
3. Rotate 90 degrees and fold it into thirds, again creasing it.
4. Round off the ends with a scissors. Unfold it.
5. With the scissors, clip out the four corners.
6. On the inside of the envelope, write your message.
7. Sew a small bead on to the outside of each rounded end with embroidery floss.
8. Place the penny in the middle. Close up the flaps (square ones first, then rounded).
9. Make a slip knot in a piece of embroidery floss and tighten the knot around one bead. Wrap the floss in a figure eight around the beads.
10. Done!

MISSION: Veterans Day
Veterans Day is one of my favorite holidays. My grandpa–Pappap, we called him–fought in WWII and was a POW for over two years in Germany. When he returned to the States, he weighed 95 pounds. Had he not survived, I would not be here, and the Secret Agent L Project would not exist. I owe him everything.
Friday was such a special day, for so many of us. I really loved reading your stories and thoughts about the veterans you know (and don’t know, but appreciate). We are so blessed to live in a country where our neighbors, family, and friends–and even complete strangers–volunteer their lives so that we can be free. If that’s not kindness, then I don’t know what is.
Affiliated Agent T’s mission made my eyes leak. I love that she shared the special holiday with her son, teaching him to value our servicemen and servicewomen. And the fact that her son wants to follow in their footsteps one day not only makes me so proud, but it puts a tear of joy in my eye to know that someone so young knows the value of service to others.

I love coupons, and I took great advantage of CVS offering $3 in rewards back on the purchase of 3 Hallmark cards. This was perfect considering I could get three 99cent cards and get $3 back towards my next purchase!
My son went in CVS with my CVS card, and picked out 6 (we couldn’t do just three)thank you cards. We then went across the street to Stewart’s and bought 6 gift cards for a free coffee or hot chocolate. My son then wrote a message on the cards, and placed a gift card inside.
We then delivered cards to the local Legion, Senior Center and to his barber. The barber was not part of the actual “secret mission” as he did know him. But the others were complete strangers.
He took the first card into the Legion where he gave an employee the card to give to any veteran that came in that day. The next card we put through a mail slot of the local senior center and addressed it to a “veteran.”
This was such a great experience to share with my child to show him the importance of the holiday and also showing him how good it makes you feel to do good for others expecting nothing in return.

MISSION: Seventh Time’s the Charm!
I love getting mission from agents who have been a part of the SAL Project for a long time. Affiliated Agent A from Arkansas is no exception. It looks like she took a little bit of a hiatus, but she’s back!

Affiliated Agent A is back! After several months of hiatus, I am ready to spread random acts of kindness again. On Saturday, August 27 I was scheduled to attend meetings at the Holiday Inn in Fort Smith, AR. I thought that this would be the perfect place to get back in the groove again since the hotel would be busy with not only people attending the meetings but guests as well. During our first break at 9:30 am, I checked out the lobby area to find the perfect place to leave my package of Baskin & Robbins candy and my Secret Agent L card. I decided on a bench near the elevators and restrooms. I thought it would be so cool to get back to the meeting room and see one of the other participants come in with my package but no one did. When I walked by the bench later at lunchtime my package was gone!
