Holiday Smooches to You and You and You!
Happy Holidays, Secret Agent L Fans!
This will be my last post until after the first of the year, as I’ll be on vacation starting this afternoon until January 3. I don’t have the Internet at home, so I won’t be able to post missions and other fun stuff. I just wanted to take a moment to tell you that I hope you and your family and friends have a wonderful holiday season (Happy Hanukkah, Happy Winter Solstice, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy New Year!) filled with love, light, joy, peace, love, and, of course, kindness. Thank you for making every day feel like Christmas for me because of your kindness, enthusiasm, and love.
I will be on Twitter, so feel free to follow me if you’re not already! (Most of my tweets are about donuts, napping, and donuts. Just a heads-up. Tee hee!)
I look forward to 2012 and the acts of intentional kindness that it will hold. And I look forward to spending it with YOU!
xoxo,
Laura

MISSION: Save this sweet dog’s life this holiday season!!
UPDATE: I just found out from a Facebook fan that TANKS HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!! Thanks, everyone, for sharing this through social media!!!
Those eyes. I can’t look into them without feeling a huge weight in the pit of my stomach.
This is Tanks. She was dropped off recently at the Lee County Animal Shelter in Sanford, North Carolina. She risks being put down this weekend! She is spayed, microchipped, house broken, good with children, good with dogs, and she is 1 year old. The owner surrender her because they don’t have time for her.
She needs a home and this is not a good day for her in the shelter. She’s been abandoned and she’s scared to death. There’s a lot of soul in those eyes! If you can even be a foster parent to this precious animal, even for just a short time, or if you can ADOPT her, PLEASE PLEASE contact Omayra Zagada, Lee County North Carolina Animal Control Officer II at (919) 776-7446.
Tanks shouldn’t have to die on Christmas Eve. PLEASE consider opening your heart and home to this sweet animal. If you can’t, then PLEASE forward this to EVERYONE you know. Put it on your Facebook page, Tweet about it, etc.
THANK YOU!!!!

MISSION: Finals Stress Relief
The holidays are right around the corner, which means that it’s officially the end of the semester for those of us in the academic circles. I work at a university here in Pittsburgh, and I’ve seen first-hand the stress that Finals Week can cause our students. Some of them seem to stay in their pajamas for the entire week, while others look as though they’re *this close* to falling over from lack of sleep. I love Affiliated Agent H’s mission from last week. Perfect, perfect, perfect.

With finals week upon Point Park University, I thought it would be good to spread some cheer and remind students to take some time out for themselves. They always seem to get so worked up, as all students do, so I left a few care packages in the bathrooms around the University (mainly in the library since that’s where the most studying seems to get done!). It was just a little something to pamper themselves: lipgloss, lotion, hand sanitizer and a note reminding them to remember to have some “me” time.
(Side note-Target is awesome for buying lotions and such; they are completely sealed so the recipient knows it hasn’t been tampered with. A crappy but realistic concern in today’s society.)
Truth be told, I had a pretty terrible weekend. I had planned on leaving the gifts this week anyways to help with the stress of finals, but it’s amazing how the good feelings work both ways. My mood was instantly brightened just by doing something that could potentially brighten someone else’s day!
I’m so sorry you had such a rough weekend, Affiliated Agent H! But I’m SO glad that your decision to give of yourself and of your heart helped to turn things around. As Number Two always says, “When you need, give.” And she’s right! AND, how exciting that the person who found one of your gifts Tweeted about it and included a picture! LOVE IT!

Play it Forward
Today I will speaking at Propel Schools South Braddock High School for their first annual Challenge Day. The day will focus on ways to combat bullying in school and to educate students about the dangers of bullying. Students will be presented with information from community experts on sexual harassment, race issues, poverty info, and cyberbullying. In the afternoon the entire student body will participate in a discussion with guest panelists. I’ll be speaking about the SAL Project and the importance of intentional acts of kindness. I’m really excited!
But Propel Schools South Braddock High School will also be hosting another amazing event tomorrow, Saturday, December 17, 2011. If you’re in the Pittsburgh area and are currently struggling with ways to provide toys for your children this holiday season, you can stop by the school between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and “shop” for free. Please see the image below for more info. You can also visit their Facebook page.
Kindness in action. I love it.

MISSION: Happiness in Hawaii
I love warm weather. Sun, blue skies, a light breeze… that’s heaven to me. And living in Pittsburgh doesn’t often afford a lot of days like that, unfortunately. I think the statistics are that we get around 65 sunny days a year here. Luckily, the amazing people, incredible history and culture, and gorgeous skyline make up for that.
When Affiliated Agent DLP sent me her recent mission that took place in Hawaii, I knew it was perfect to post for this time of year! May it warm all of your hearts during this winter season!

I have been home from Hawaii for about 6 weeks but with coming home to house and yard damage from a very rare October snowstorm and Thanksgiving and Christmas nearly here, I have been slow in taking care of my pictures. Here is my most recent mission:
I was lucky enough to be able to go to Hawaii with my husband and friends for 16 days. I knew I wanted to plan a mission while there and decided that I wouldn’t take anything with me because of weight restrictions but would use what I could find while there. I had a wonderful time and Hawaii was so beautiful. I am so blessed to have been able to tour 3 islands and enjoy the warm weather, beautiful sunsets, the delightful ocean waters and seeing things I had never seen before.
So towards the end of my time there, I started to look for things I could use for my mission. I saved a brown bag from a purchase, used a postcard from Dole Pineapple Plantation and purchased a beautiful coffee mug with pictures of Hawaii.
On the morning that we were leaving our hotel and heading to the airport, Nov. 3rd, I told the others I was going for a walk. With my treasure in my purse, I walked around the hotel grounds looking for just the right place to leave the bag. There is a lovely waterfall with a Hawaii outrigger boat in front of it in the hotel garden so I left it there. Shortly after the “drop” we checked out of the hotel and I saw that my mission there was complete because the bag was gone. I hope who ever picked it up, enjoyed Hawaii as much as I did. Or if it was a person that lives and works in Hawaii, I hope they appreciate what a heavenly place Hawaii is.

MISSION: Secret Agents of the Pacific Northwest
You guys.
This? Is so awesome. I mean, like, really.
DATE:
ongoing
OPERATIVE:

LOCATION:
Pacific Northwest (Washington state)
TIME:

This is going to be an ongoing mission due to the schedules of all involved but wanted to give you a heads up!
A few girlfriends of mine know about the SAL project and have participated with me on missions — a couple have done some on their own (without doing the email, photo part).
For the holidays I asked them for a group effort: we could each bring an assortment of items and meet for a “wrap” party — we could then pick an afternoon or evening to gather them up, deliver them places and go have a holiday celebration!
They overwhelmed me with their contributions — we not only made over 30 packages — using hats/gloves, lotion, candy, lip balm, etc but also over a dozen “needy” bags — we took Ziploc bags and put in each a pair of socks or gloves, hand or toe warmers, sanitizer, lotion, granola bar, Ensure, juice, pack of tissues, health cookie, lip balm and of course a candy cane! Attaching the SAL card and a note that let them know it was to feed their bodies and their souls. They are perfect to hand out to so many people who are at intersections or freeway ramps looking for help.
We have only been able to set out a few of the gift missions so far but I am attaching some photos of them. I took one of the bags for the needy on my routine run at a local lake and handed it to a homeless man I have seen there several times — I think it almost shocked him to have someone reach out and actually touch him in more ways than one.
I will continue to send additional pics but thought I would attach these so far!!
Hope your holidays are warm and happy — I know it can be such a difficult time of year for many of us but thank you for reminding us of ways to help others — which invariably helps ourselves!!
