MISSION: Walls Are Bad
I think this is the last of our Valentine’s Day missions. I’m excited to report that this mission was completed right here in Pittsburgh! There’s nothing like spreading love in the city I love, and the Affiliated Agents who are responsible for this mission definitely love this city, too!

When Pittsburgh affords an opportunity to get outdoors, I think we should all take it! I love the idea of hiking, biking, and walking all over this amazing city. The views are nothing short of spectacular and finding them via methods other than inside a vehicle can really bring about a new sense of love for the Steel City. I’m a big proponent of getting outside and have great love for Walls Are Bad. Every day, the Walls Are Bad calendar gives me a great list of things to do that are not behind my computer at work or my television at home.
Prior to Valentine’s Day, I really wanted to perform a mission that showed what love means to me. My love for enjoying the city was something I knew I could share. So with some help, I gathered up a reusable water bottle, an outdoor recreation guide, a pin, and a couple of other goodies and set out to encourage another Pittsburgher to get outside on Valentine’s Day and have the city show them some love.
During my lunch break, I headed for one of downtown’s busiest food courts, that of Fifth Avenue Place. I walked around the shopping area looking for the perfect spot to drop my mission item and then headed toward the food court and the perfect empty table, hoping that I’d be able to just drop the item on the table and keep walking. Just as I approached a table, someone sat down right in front of me. So I kept walking and circled the area again until I found another empty table. This time, I walked a little faster toward the table and, as I walked beside the table, I simply dropped the mission item on the top of the table and kept walking. My helper was able to snap a few pictures before we high-fived our great mission and went our separate ways, back to work.
When it comes to being with my friends and loved ones, whether it is Valentine’s Day or any other, I prefer the non-traditional route. I like to travel and see new sights. My desire for the recipient of this ‘get outside gift’ is that they, too, share this with their friends and family and take to the great outdoors. As the note on the mission items says, ‘Get outside and find yourself in love with Pittsburgh.’
LOVE LOVE LOVE this mission, you guys! Thanks for spreading the love in our amazing city and for encouraging others to fall in love, too…with Pittsburgh!

i am a HUGE outdoor person so this mission was a big hit with me — great idea!!
As a principal of an elementary school, I am seeing kids are thinking of only himself/herself more and more, rather than looking out for others. What is in it for ME? How is this going to benefit ME? Why should I do this? I really never noticed it in our school as much as I am this year. I am going to use you as an example. Thanks for being such a positive example for young people.
